UHV Jaguars looking at tough non-conference schedule

No Comments Local News Sports News

The University of Houston-Victoria baseball team will once again have a tough non-conference schedule mixed in with its Red River Athletic Conference when the Jaguars take the field in January.

Eleven of the Jaguars’ 16 non-conference games will be against either NCAA Division I or II schools according to head coach Terry Puhl, who released the Jaguars’ 2017 schedule today. Puhl begins his 10th season at the helm for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars open the season with a three-game set against Arlington Baptist on Jan. 27-28 at Riverside Stadium. Then after nearly a month off, the Jaguars will face familiar NCAA D-II schools St. Edward’s (Feb. 21) and St. Mary’s (Feb. 28) at home for a pair of single games, before opening up conference play on the road.

The Jaguars open up RRAC play against the always tough LSU-Shreveport Pilots in Shreveport with a single game on March 3 and a doubleheader on March 4. They then face NCAA D-1 foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 6:30 p.m. matchup in Corpus Christi on March 7.

The Jaguars then return home for a three-game conference series with Jarvis Christian on March 11-12 and a non-conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-International on March 14.

The rest of the way, the Jaguars home schedule will include Texas College (March 24-25), A&M-Corpus Christi (March 29), Wiley College (April 14-15), Sr. Edwards (April 18) and Our Lady of the Lake (April 28-29).

The Jaguars will go on the road to play the University of the Southwest (March 17-18), St. Edwards (March 21), LSU-Alexandria (March 31-April 1), A&M-International (April 4). Texas A&M-Texarkana (April 7-8), Huston-Tillotson (April 21-22) and St. Mary’s (April 25)

The conference tournament is scheduled for May 5-8 in Shreveport, La.

UHV baseball season tickets on sale

The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars will be wrapping up their first decade of baseball in Victoria this season as they celebrate 10 years of athletic competition at the school.

UHV fans can catch all the home action and excitement at Riverside Stadium with a special season ticket offer for the 2017 season.

UHV baseball season tickets are now on sale for the 2017 campaign and this is your chance to reserve your seats for all 24 home games for just $99. The Jaguars have 15 home dates this season that include 24 home games and nine doubleheaders.

Season-ticket holders will enjoy other benefits as well, including an invitation to the Jaguars’ tailgate party and the same great seats for all 24 games, along with a coupon for free food at the concession stand. Unused season tickets may also be exchanged for general admission seats for any remaining regular season game.

“As a season-ticket holder you won’t find a better value for your entertainment dollar anywhere,” UHV athletics director Ashley Walyuchow said. “There’s a lot of excitement for the upcoming season as we continue to celebrate our 10th year in competitive collegiate athletics.”

Season-ticket holders who are renewing their season tickets will be able to retain their same seats as in the past if they so desire but need to contact the UHV athletic office as soon as possible Walyuchow said.

The Jaguars will again have a potent schedule that will include NCAA competition from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, St. Edward’s University, St. Mary’s University and Texas A&M-International.
