Another hot day in store for South Central Texas today as highs will climb into the mid 90s to 104 range. Humidity values will create elevated heat index values near 108 degrees for some locations (mainly west).Skies should stay mostly clear with a sustained southeast wind of 10-20 mph. With yet another day of hot conditions, don’t forget to stay hydrated and protect your skin with plenty of sunscreen if outdoors!

Hot and dry conditions will persist through the weekend into early next week across all of south central Texas. Highs will reach the lower 90s in the Hill Country to 105 degrees along the Rio Grande. Overnight low temperatures will be in the 70s. Heat index values on Saturday will be in the 100-109 range.

With heat indices climbing into the triple digits this week, remember to stay safe when outdoors! Make sure you’re plenty hydrated, wear plenty of sunscreen, and wear light clothing.

How to Avoid Getting Caught in a Rip Current

  • Learn more about rip currents and beach safety developed by Texas A&M
  • Check water conditions before going in by looking at the local beach forecast before you leave for the beach and talking to the lifeguard at the beach.
  • Only swim at a beach with lifeguards. The chances of drowning at a beach with lifeguards are 1 in 18 million (U.S. Lifesaving Association).
  • Don’t assume! Great weather for the beach does not always mean it’s safe to swim or even play in the shallows. Rip currents often form on calm, sunny days.
