Egon – Afternoons
With his down home personality and personal approach, it’s no wonder Egon Barthels show is an afternoon favorite in Texas! Egon believes radio should be entertaining, informative, and listener friendly. After radio stints in Victoria, Brenham, El Campo, Three Rivers, Navasota, Bryan, College Station, Corpus Christi and Gonzales, he has earned a large following of loyal listeners with his engaging personality. Egon has made it back to where it all began, Texas Thunder Radio.
Along the way, Egon has received numerous awards including “Community Service Award”, from the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. He also was honored by the Gonzales Elks Lodge Distinguished Citizen Award. Egon’s voice has been on CMT show “Made”, RFD-TV, Rural Television, Family Net and many radio and TV stations across Texas! He’s passionate about music and he’s passionate about Texas. Although he hasn’t brought the award home to South Central Texas, Egon has been nominated by TRRR for Small Market DJ of the Year.
Outside of his radio career, Egon spent a small amount of time working for HEI of San Marcos on site of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium Project, as well as, operating farm equipment near Bloomington, Green Lake, and Placedo, He’s even scooped ice cream, poured beer, bagged ice and dipped minnows at Howard’s!
When he’s not on the radio, Egon reads lots of newspapers and magazines, enjoys Mexican food, watches reality TV shows, and loves trips to the Texas Hill Country, hanging out on the Gulf Coast, and loves to listen to his music loud! In his truck, check the CD player and you’ll probably find George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Wayne Toups or Pat Green- all among his favorites.
Egon has been involved with many charities, non-profits, and events across Texas, including, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Gonzales Main Street, Gonzales County Area Go Texan Tractor Pull and BBQ Cookoff, Seguin Freedom Fiesta, Luling Watermelon Thump, Poteet Strawberry Festival, Schulenburg Festival, Flatonia Czhilispiel, Shiner Half Moon Holidays, Firemans 4 mile Run in Port O’Connor and many others!
Even with a busy career, Egon said he enjoys spending time with his wife Wendy, for a weekend get away to San Antonio, or hangin around the house in Shiner.
