Local Man Arrested For Felony Cattle Theft

By News Staff

A Fayette County man is behind bars in Karnes City following his arrest for felony cattle theft. The arrest is the result of an investigation by Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Kenny Murchison.

Murchison initiated the investigation July 1, 2018, after a Fayette County rancher reported that he was missing six cows and a calf. The rancher noted that they went missing sometime between June 28 and June 30 while he was out of town. Murchison discovered tire tracks where the cattle had been loaded but had little else to go on until a tip pointed him to one of the ranch’s past employees.

Moulton Police and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 46-year-old woman who was found dead in her home on Friday, Jan. 26.

Moulton Police Chief Daniel Beyer did not name the woman, but the Record learned this week that she was Jennifer Luce, formerly of La Grange, and the girlfriend of former Fayette County Justice of the Peace Tommy Tipton. According to Beyer’s report, Officer Raul Diaz responded to a concerned citizen who requested a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Bobkat Street in Moulton at around 1 p.m. last Friday.

All of the doors were locked and Diaz could not get a response from the woman who was believed to be inside, Beyer said. A family member unlocked the door for police. Diaz found a 46-year-old female unresponsive inside the residence. Lavaca County EMS arrived and determined that she was deceased. Justice of the Peace Wayne Denson performed an inquest and recorded her time of death at 2:30 p.m. Beyer said there was no sign of a suicide and Luce did not leave a note.
