13-year-old, woman's rescue of boy from drowning in pool caught on camera

iStock/Thinkstock(ROCHESTER, Minn.) — In Minnesota, a young boy nearly drowned in a pool until he was saved — the entire scene was caught on a surveillance video.

Evan, 12, was swimming with some friends at a pool in Rochester. At some point, while five fellow swimmers were splashing away, Evan sunk to the bottom.

Luckily, 13-year-old Cody Runyon sensed something was awry.

“I went underwater and all of a sudden I see him just lying on the ground just sitting down on 5 feet, just passed out,” Cody told “Good Morning America.”

The 4-foot-11, 80-pound teen rushed to the bottom of the pool and pulled an unconscious Evan to the shallow end.

“I held him around the waist, put his head over my shoulder and I just carried him like that,” said Cody of the Wednesday incident.

Desiree Pasko — who suffers from a severe case of fibromyalgia and can barely walk — arose from her wheelchair and ran over to the pool edge to assist.

She said that as Cody came towards her, Evan was “limp as can be, and the way his head is moving, it’s shaking and his face is being dragged through the water — he’s not coherent, he’s not alive.”

She can be seen on the video squatting to lift the boy out of the water and setting him on the ground.

“He was so tiny in that moment, and he was blue, and he was cold, and he was wet, and he was clearly deceased,” she said.

Pasko then began performing CPR that she said she’d learned from a decade ago.

“I did three breaths, and ten compressions and then I did two breaths, and then ten compressions. And then I did two breaths, and then his cheeks started to get a small amount of pink. And I could hear him gargle, so then I did two very quick, very forceful compressions,” she recounted.

In the moment, Evan started coming to and started to vomit water as she remembered yelping aloud, “He’s alive! He’s alive!”

Evan said that the whole incident caused him to be “really, really scared.”

But that after he realized he was saved, the fear turned to gratitude.

“They’re definitely my heroes because without Cody and Des I wouldn’t be alive,” he said.

The moment was especially sweet for Pasko.

“Watching a boy go from totally blue to a little bit pink is a rewarding feeling,” she said, weeping.

By Music News Group

Robert Marquardt/Getty ImagesActor Vince Vaughn was arrested early Sunday for a suspected DUI, police confirmed to ABC News.

The Wedding Crashers star was arrested for driving under the influence at a routine DUI checkpoint at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Artesia Boulevard in Hermosa Beach, California, at approximately 12:30 am, the Manhattan Beach Police Department said in a press release.

Vaughn, 48, was then booked around 4 a.m. and charged with a misdemeanor. He was held on $5,000 bail and later released.

Vaughn’s representative declined to comment “at this time.”

This isn’t the first time Vaughn has been arrested.

In 2001, the actor was arrested after a bar fight in Wilmington, North Carolina. Vaughn was there shooting a film, “Domestic Disturbance.” It’s the same bar fight in which “Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi was stabbed. Vaughn was charged with assault, but the charges were later dropped.

Woman says cellphone burst into flames, destroyed car while she was driving

WXYZ via ABCNews.com(DETROIT) — All that remains of a Michigan woman’s Nissan Maxima is a burnt out hulk after she says one of her cellphones burst into flames while she was driving. Her car is totaled, but the woman says she was just lucky to escape with her life.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke to Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ Friday after her car caught fire and burned. She now says she is considering a lawsuit.

She was driving on Evergreen Avenue in downtown Detroit on May 21 and said she had a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S8 in her cupholder when she saw a spark and one of the phones caught fire.

“I thought I was going to die when I saw the sparks and the fire,” she told WXYZ.

“It happened quickly. It just went up in flames. People were telling me to get away from the car. What if I was on the highway stuck in traffic and couldn’t get out?” she added.

The woman pulled over to the side of the road and got out of her car. It was quickly engulfed in flames.

The Detroit Fire Department confirmed to WXYZ they responded to the fire.

Samsung has had problems with phones bursting into flames, but neither the Galaxy S4 or S8 are on recall lists. The phone maker says it is investigating the incident.

“We stand behind the quality and safety of the millions of Samsung phones in the U.S.,” Samsung said in a statement to WXYZ. “We are eager to conduct a full investigation of this matter and until we are able to examine all of the evidence, it is impossible to determine the true cause of any incident.”

Samsung dealt with major fallout from one of its phones overheating in late 2016.

The Galaxy Note7 had problems overheating and bursting into flames shortly after it was released in August 2016. It officially issued a recall the following month, and then halted production in October 2016. The Federal Aviation Administration banned the Note7 from flights in October 2016, as well.

A lawyer for the woman whose car burst into flames says they reached out to Samsung and may file a lawsuit, though none has been filed yet. The woman’s lawyer, Gerald Thurswell, said he expects a recall once an investigation is complete.

“We’ve contacted Samsung. They’ve been very responsible and sent a crew to examine the car and portions of the phone,” Thurswell told WXYZ. “Once it’s determined which of the phones [caught fire] and that one is recalled, we’ll probably save lives.”

WABC(NEW YORK) — A drunk garbage truck driver in Brooklyn, New York, left an unbelievable trail of destruction in his wake Saturday morning, according to police.

According to police, Anthony Castaldo, 40, was driving the garbage truck in Borough Park, Brooklyn, on Saturday morning when he plowed into nine cars parked on the side of the street, took out a tree and knocked over a house’s front porch.

Castaldo was charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test.

Several cars were completely totaled, with some stacked on top of each other, and a large tree sheared in half.

Castaldo drives for Viking Sanitation, which said it immediately suspended the driver.

“Our company has a long track record of safety and we hold ourselves to high standards, including random drug testing for drivers,” the company told WABC in a statement. “It appears that this driver failed to adhere to our standards and he was immediately suspended as part of the ongoing investigation of this serious incident.”

No one was injured in the accident.

Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner party with Stanley Cup, Alex Ovechkin at DC restaurant

ABC News(WASHINGTON) — The two biggest items in Washington, D.C., crossed paths on Saturday night as Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner posed with the Stanley Cup.

It was a matter of pure coincidence as the president’s daughter and son-in-law visited D.C. hotspot Café Milano for a date night while Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin was celebrating with the Stanley Cup.

The Capitals won the Stanley Cup, the NHL’s championship trophy, on Thursday. They defeated the underdog Las Vegas Golden Knights in the series, 4-1, to win their first Cup.

The Keeper of the Cup Philip Pritchard, who has traveled with the Cup as its overseer for 27 years, posted a photo of the trophy with a casual Ivanka Trump and Kushner.

Jokes about the Trumps meeting with a Russian flooded Twitter, but everyone at the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves.

ABC News’ Kenneth Moton happened to be at Cafe Milano, Franco Nuschese’s trendy Italian dining spot, when the partying Capitals arrived and filmed the Cup’s grand entrance.

Ovechkin had quite the day with the Stanley Cup. He had visited Nationals Park to throw out the first pitch before the Giants played the Nationals Saturday afternoon. Plenty of Twitter users also captured Ovechkin frolicking in a fountain in the nation’s capital Saturday, as well.
